Turn it up to 11

So, yes, to sum up last night:

Success for the Hike & Bike Plan! and the Thoroughfare Development Plan!

It could not have happened without all of your support.

But now it’s time to really roll up our sleeves and change to a higher gear. We need to focus on the Arlington Hike and Bike PUBLIC HEARING with City Council on March 1st. It’s a whole new board of people who also need to hear our voice.

So let’s spend the month turning it up to 11 and really letting the leadership know that bikes belong in Arlington. Everyone’s done a great job so far. Let’s keep it going!

  1. Thank you Bike Friendly Arlington and membership for getting the word and people out. I appreciate the updates for the moving target date of the meeting due to the recent incredible weather.

Arlington’s size, location, and importantance in the region make it important to a true intermodal transportation plan throughout North Central Texas.

I was unable to stay for the final Commission vote, but I also missed the negative (con) speakers during the Public Hearing. After our Council meeting in Benbrook I was thrilled to get online and check your FaceBook page to see the positive results.

I must say, I found it entertaining when the one Commissioner asked if Lockeed Martin provided any facilities for its employees. I was thrilled to have extra time to explain how terrific our employer had been and how alternative transportation and health considerations had been embraced by a major employer in the region.

Keep up the good effort- remember, bicyclists are not a fringe group or a minority, together you are a majority.

  5. Thanks Tym,

I found it very interesting to review the “Con” comments. Those included members of the Board of Realtors? Do they not recognize the positive impact Bike Routes and Bike Lanes have upon communities- those were well presented by George Chav (Sp?)? To suggest cyclists and pedestrians access be located away from true destinations suggests a secondary importance or value- certainly pedestrians and cyclists wish to work, shop, and play in the same locations as motor vehicle operators.

I would also like to comment on how well Emmanuela M. spoke, your quote at the end was very timely- thank you.

As everyone is aware- this is but one meeting towards this topics conclussion. Even if there were a certainty of City Council’s approval of this Hike & Bike Plan, positive numbers of those in support would be important to foster not just adoption but also implementation. Another words- see everyone on the 1st of March.
